2013 STONE RESTORATION IN THE ITALIAN ALPS
WITH CANOVA ASSOCIATION & YESTERMORROW DESIGN/BUILD SCHOOL, IN PIEMONTE, ITALY
Amanda was a participant in the course organized through The Canova Association based in Piemonte, and Yestermorrow Design/Build School based in Vermont. For these two weeks we were immersed in stone. The course was a combination of construction days, design days, and field trips. On our design days we explored different ideas and created design solutions for the abandoned buildings of Gesch, our site. During our six construction days, we worked with Vermont mason Thea Alvin and local masons to construct a stone vault. Our field trips included visits to quarries, stone yards, a stone restorer for the Milan Duomo, and beautiful hikes through the mountains.
